9/4

Happy September! I hope that your families had a wonderful and restful Labor Day weekend! The long weekend flew by for me! This week is a 4 day week for us, so it will be a quick one. Here are some things to look forward to this week :)

Math: We are finishing up some work on multiplication and starting division this week. The students took a mid unit assessment last week that will come home on Wednesday.

Reading We are reading a book called Esparanza Rising. We are having a lot of fun learning the characters, trying to fidn the figurative language and working hard responding to literature in our reading journals. We are working on kicking off our Daily 3 stations: Read to Self, Word Work, and Writing about Reading. This week I am going to focus on responding to the independent books that they get from the library- hopefully providing some accountability for what they are reading during our Read to Self time.

Spelling Onto Unit 3 this week. I used the first 2 weeks as practice getting into the groove with spelling. They should get their spelling words each Monday, so that they have the week to study them.

Writing We are working on Narratives. We have been working on stories about a time when we got in the most trouble.. It has been a fun topic and the students are at different stages of developing that narrative.

Social Studies We are learning about the Civil War. We have spent a lot of time talking about the causes of the civil war, but now we are moving into the actual civil war and how it changed our country.

Science This week we are starting constructive and destructive forces. We will start with the structure of the earth and then move into pate tectonics.

Progress reports come home on Wednesday. The students will have a stack of graded papers that come home on Wednesday too. The start of the school year is always a little slow with grades, but from now on you will see the grades weekly coming home and updated on synergy.

Thanks for all that you do :)
